Why is Color Correction Necessary?
The short answer is: It doesn’t have to be.
Color Correction is usually not the fault of the salon professional, the formulation or over/underprocessing.
Most often, color is applied to match a swatch used as a guide. Assuming color was applied properly and the correct colors were used in the formula, the problem is almost always elements that were on the hair before the color was applied. Your hair is not a swatch. Your hair has been shampooed in water containing minerals and Oxidizers which can build up on the hair, creating a coating to which the color adheres – rather than directly to the hair shaft. The hair swatch is natural hair containing no mineral buildup.
If color is applied to hair without first removing minerals and Oxidizers, as well as styling products, the color will come out dark, dull or will fade prematurely, requiring corrective color to:
- restore vibrancy
- remove brassiness or reddish tone
- lighten dark or dull highlights or ashy ends
- restore faded color
- match the swatch
- balance uneven color

Before any attempt to re-color or highlight hair, it is IMPERATIVE that first a treatment using fresh-dried vitamins and natural chelators be applied to the hair.
